We worked with Movember to produce reports in Australia and the UK, called The Real Face of Men’s Health, which highlight the state of men’s health and call for governments to act.
The UK report contains new data which found shocking disparities across the UK – in the most deprived 20% of the country men are 81% more likely to die prematurely than those in the wealthiest. It includes an interactive heat map comparing premature death rates by UK constituency. It also features new polling of those who care for these men, which found that 41% of people who are informal caregivers have to leave or change a job to support the man they care for.
The Australian report finds similarly shocking disparities, including that the rate of premature death among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men is more than double that of non-Indigenous men. Check out the Australian interactive heat map here.
The report focused on the impact of gender on health. Gender is a social determinant of health, and Movember calls for governments to invest in gender responsive healthcare that fully responds to the needs of women and LGBTQI+ people as well as men.
